We chose Agriturismo La Ginestrella for a three-day stay on the occasion of the closing of the veneration of the relics of Saint Francis, and it proved to be a perfect base for visiting Perugia, Assisi and Spello: all reachable within a few minutes by car. There were three of us, two adults and a child, and we were assigned a very comfortable mini apartment: a spacious living area with a fully equipped kitchen (induction hob, dishwasher, fridge, freezer, crockery and utensils), two bedrooms — one with an ensuite bathroom — and a second well-equipped bathroom. The terrace, large and with a view of Perugia, was an added bonus. Before arriving I had read a few negative reviews about cleanliness, but our experience was the opposite: the apartment was tidy, and the rooms were clean and pleasantly scented. The only “anomaly” was a small cobweb on a beam, removed immediately and reappearing the next morning. But this is a stone building set in the countryside: expecting complete absence of insects is simply unrealistic. Anyone choosing an agriturismo should know this, and therefore I honestly find complaints about insects in such a setting rather pointless. If you are looking for nature, nature is there. Although it was late March and only about 8 degrees outside, coming back and finding the rooms already warm was surprising. Heating is on 24 hours a day, and I asked out of curiosity about the energy source given the very fair prices of the property. Dinner is served from 19:30 to 20:30, with a simple menu based on locally sourced products. The restaurant is open for dinner only from Monday to Saturday, and on Sunday at lunchtime. My wife, allergic to milk, dairy and mushrooms, was able to have dinner from starter to dessert without any problem. I recommend the tasting menu: it is not a “mini tasting”, but the full menu with real portions. The quality of the raw ingredients is evident, and those used to large chains may not notice the difference. Breakfast may seem basic at first glance, but everything is homemade and you only need to ask to get what you want. I asked each morning for an extra fruit tart and was always happily accommodated with a smile. In the breakfast room you can buy products from the farm: legumes, oil, wine, pasta and flours. The real strength, however, is the management. The property is run by two sisters and their husbands, whom we jokingly nicknamed “equal collaborators”. We mainly interacted with Daniela and her husband Alessandro, while Paola and her husband are more involved in the kitchen. Daniela and Alessandro are among the most hospitable people I have met in years of travel: helpful, sincere, welcoming. Despite our busy schedule, every breakfast turned into an hour of pleasant conversation, exchange of experiences and valuable advice. Daniela pointed out routes, parking, places for a good lunch and stops where you don’t lose time. In short, more than guests of an accommodation we felt like guests in the home of friends. And that is a rare feeling. I warmly thank Daniela and Paola for making us feel welcomed, pampered and part of a family atmosphere. We will return as soon as possible.
