I was disappointed, firstly I was expecting Martha to be more helpful, she was impatient and as I was the last to get off the train she didn't see me and left, I had no mobile signal, fortunately a lady who lives there was able to phone her for me. I was ill at the time with vertigo due to an inner ear infection, I did tell Martha, but she rushed ahead not helping me in any way, so found her quite abrupt as I dragged myself up the many steps. In fact I never saw her again after I had paid for the room, I never saw Leonardo either, I wondered if he really existed. He did text me to see if I needed anything.
I was not impressed with the terrace which never saw the sun so I didn't use it. (It is probably very nice in summer.
The first night was noisy due to people enjoying themselves at the Bistro below my window.
I woke up cold and looked fro an extra blanket but didn't find one, so slept in my jumper.
The positive was that there was a kettle and also it was situated centrally so easy to get to places.
I think my expectations had been a little too high with all the reviews regarding what amazing hosts Martha and Leonardo were, I was perhaps hoping for a little tea and sympathy or even kindness.
I think it was very expensive for just a room, almost £100 per night.
stayed from 10/13/2018 to 10/16/2018
The answer from the host:
I'm so sorry that you felt I was being abrupt! The day you arrived, I was at the train station waiting for you, but since I didnt see you at the time you said you were arriving (and there was no update from you), I did leave after 10 minutes after your train arrived. As I explained to you when you arrived, I had another arrival by car at that same time, so I had to leave and figured yoùd contact me once you got in (which you did, from the lady who owns the bar).
When you arrived, you did tell me about your condition, so I did carry your luggage for you up the three flights of stairs. I also asked you if you needed any help with organizing your time here, but you said that you needed to lie down. Of course, I didn't want to intrude and you seemed like you wanted to be left alone (traveling can be a bit tiring, especially if you're not well), but as always, I did tell you that I lived just down the street if you ever needed me.
I'm available as much (or as little) as you need me (there was WiFi in the room and you had my cell phone number as well as our email), but since I did not hear from you, I figured you preferred to be left alone. Maybe that was my misunderstanding, so I do apologize if that's the case. I wish, though, you had contacted me for the extra blankets or anything else, as I would've loved to stop by (when you were feeling better) for a chat!
As for your day of check out, you had told me were checking out at 9am, so I did come by a little before then to walk you out, but saw that you had already left the room.
Again, I'm sorry that my service wasn't up to your expectations (especially because this is the first time anyone has ever said that to me in 7 years of business), but it was probably then my misunderstanding that you wanted to be left alone.
Thanks again, Valerie, for choosing to stay with us.
Hope you enjoyed your time in the Cinque Terre.
